Prior to any leak detection method being used it must be established
where the pipes are running. To achieve this we use a pipe locator.

        1:
For metallic pipes we place a radio signal on the pipeline. The pipe
will then act as an aerial and carry the signal on the pipe. With a
specialised radio receiver we then can trace the path of this radio
          signal and hence the pipe.

2: For non-metallic pipes we use
the Rd 50 pipe locator, which is designed to create a water hammer (vibration)
on the pipe, this causes a shock on the column of water in the pipe
as it vibrates the water. We can then trace this pipe acoustically using
the Rd 500 or PVC pipe locator.
